Lyrics

[Intro]
Female (low, whispered count):
One… rain in the ribs of the hull.
Two… cold in the nails, salt in the blood.
Three… backs to the black, eyes to the oar.
Four… I keep the time — you come back for more.

[Verse 1]
Male (weathered, low):
Salt-cracked hands on a blistered oar,
Knuckles split like the keel’s old scars.
Breath tastes iron, lungs ask no more,
Storm chews the ropes and snuffs our stars.
My shoulders grind like millstones turned,
Every pull a bargain paid in bone.
I almost let the black sea learn
My name — then your count drags me home.

[Pre-Chorus]
Female (steady, smoky, counting):
Set — we lock the blade and lean.
One — take the weight, don’t blink.
Two — backs to the storm, keep clean.
Three — hear the drum, don’t think.
Four — the sea will not win, no —
I keep the pace like a bell in your bones.

[Chorus]
Both (call-and-response, stacked on hook):
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
Both: Bite the water, grind the foam,
Beat the black till it lets us go.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
Both: Skin split open, faith like stone,
Forty hearts as one oar’s stroke.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.

[Verse 2]
Male (firmer, still gritty):
Spray hits hard as a smith’s hot spark,
Teeth on edge, but the rhythm bites back.
Your count finds fire in the soaking dark,
My spine stacks true, my shoulders track.
The loom of land is a rumor low,
A gray chord humming beyond the roar.
Oarface groans where the blisters grow,
But I hear the crew in my marrow’s floor.

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Female (harder, closer, drum-tight):
Mark — the thunder keeps no time,
We do — so lean and climb.
One — bury the blade, stay low.
Two — ride through the break, don’t slow.
Three — I’m the rope on your spine.
Four — the sea won’t win tonight.

[Chorus]
Both (bigger, same hook hammered):
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
Both: Beat the gale with tendon, bone,
Make the black tide spit us whole.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
Both: Oars like hammers, wind like stone,
Every shout a burning oath.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.

[Chant Break]
Both (stacked low male chant choir, stomps and “hey!” on the stroke):
Hey — pull! Hey — pull!
Backs to the storm, we don’t fold.
Hey — pull! Hey — pull!
Salt in the cut and the blade runs cold.
Hey — pull! Hey — pull!
Forty men, one heartbeat, hold.
Hey — pull! Hey — pull!
Beat, beat — bring the morning home.

[Build]
Both (tight, rising; she counts, he answers with grit):
She: One —
He: Bury it deep.
She: Two —
He: Lean till it screams.
She: Three —
He: Bone into steam.
She: Four —
He: The sea won’t keep.
Both: Hands like rope, breath like flame,
Name by name we shift the frame.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.

[Drop]
Instrumental Break — Violin leads a raw, triumphant melody over growling dubstep bass and halftime rock weight; war drums slam the stroke while stacked “hey!” shouts and short “Pull!” stabs punctuate each bar.

[Bridge]
Male (alone, stripped to piano and cello, almost breaking):
I nearly gave the black my breath,
Let my oar drift loose, let the cold decide.
But your count cut through that iron wet,
A drum in my ribs said, Not tonight.
I’m a cracked plank, a frayed old line,
But your voice made every splinter hold.
If I fall, you’ll lift my time —
I am not alone in this cold.

[Final Chorus]
Both (full roar, violin soaring, hook at peak):
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
Both: Dawn’s thin blade on the far grey foam,
We carve a path and we make it known.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
Both: Storm in our backs, fire in our throats,
Forty as one, we turn the boat.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
Both: Salt-cracked hands and a blistered oar,
Beat the sea till it gives us shore.
She: Pull —
He: We bring the morning home.
Both: Pull — we bring the morning home.

[Outro]
Female (hushed, slowing count as rain thins, a single heartbeat drum):
One… the wind falls off our names.
Two… the oar comes up, the blade runs clean.
Three… shore answers, low and plain.
Four… Pull — we bring the morning home.
