Lyrics

[Intro]
(Cold wind. A distant lone horn. One crying solo violin cuts through the white.)
(xx, near-whisper) Frost on the tongue, iron in the air,
(Female, soft) A red thread in the snow, pulled tight from every prayer.

[Verse 1]
(xx) Tracks like cracks on a giant’s hand,
Breath turns to glass in the throat I stand.
A winter of names stitched inside my skin,
Dead men’s stitches keep the warm fire in.
Bones hum low like a buried drum,
Every footfall calls the ghost I’m from.
I cradle a spark in a wolves’ night sky,
Hold it to my ribs so the wind won’t pry.
(Female) I wear their rings in the lines I speak,
(xx) I borrow their thunder when my knees get weak.

[Pre-Chorus]
(Female) Hear them walking, shoulder to shoulder in the storm,
(xx) Their ash in my veins keeps the ember warm.
(Female) If the sun won’t rise, we will make it rise,
(Both) With a blade of light through the northern ice—

[Chorus]
(Both, strong) I am the march of a thousand fires in the frost,
The last of a line that refuses to be lost.
I carry the weight, I carry the cries,
In the teeth of the wind with Valhalla in my eyes.
(Both, roaring)
The blood of the north runs cold but never dies,
The blood of the north runs cold but never dies.

[Verse 2]
(Female) Mother taught flint, father taught steel,
Both said “child, turn your fear into a shield.”
(xx) Ravens in the gale scratch runes on my cheek,
I read them aloud so my courage can speak.
(Female) The ice bit deep where the river broke,
My knuckles split red—still, I never choked.
(xx) I swallow the night, I answer its call,
If I meet my end, let me run while I fall.
(Female) I’ll walk to the gate with the frost in my lungs,
(xx) With a chorus of ghosts on the tip of my tongue.

[Pre-Chorus 2]
(Female) Hear them whisper, then hear them roar,
(xx) Every ancestor a drum on the shore.
(Female) If the dark won’t part, we will cleave the skies,
(Both) With the heat of our names as the cold replies—

[Chorus 2]
(Both, bigger) We are the march of a thousand fires in the frost,
A bloodline of storms that refuses to be crossed.
We carry the weight, we carry the cries,
In the jaws of the night with Valhalla in our eyes.
(Both, layered with low male chants)
The blood of the north runs cold but never dies,
The blood of the north runs cold but never dies,
(Chant under) Hey! Hey! Never dies! Hey!

[Build]
(xx) Taiko hearts, gathering thunder low,
(Female) Violin coils, a serpent in the snow.
(xx) Put your ear to the ice—hear the army rise—
(Fake drop — breath held, everything pulls back)
(Female, a hush) Hold… hold…

[Drop]
[Instrumental Break — Violin leads a fierce D minor melody over growling dubstep bass and halftime war drums; electric guitars grind beneath. Male chant choir stomps in rhythm.]
(Chant) Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
(Chant, call-and-response)
The blood of the north—(Hey!) runs cold—(Hey!)
But never dies—(Hey!) never dies—(Hey!)

[Breakdown]
(xx, nearly alone; low male drone underneath) If I don’t return, stitch my story to the shield.
Write it in the grain where my fingers used to feel.
Open up the frost, let the oldest doors arise—
I go with all my names, and I look them in the eyes.
(Low male chant, distant) Ho… ho… ho…

[Chant Break]
(Chant choir, heavy stomps, throat-sung drones)
Hey—hey—hey—hey!
(Both, over the chant, firm and intimate)
We march with the fire we kept alive,
We rise with the weight of a thousand lives.
(Chant)
Hey—hey—hey—hey!
(Both)
The blood of the north runs cold but never dies.

[Build 2]
(Female) Horns calling home through the splintered night,
(xx) Brass like mountains breathing light.
(Female) Put your hand in mine as the white winds rise,
(Both) We are the door they cannot close—survive—
[Dead silence — one shared breath]

[Final Chorus]
(Both, full-throated; epic choir beneath) We are the march of a thousand fires in the frost,
We conquered the dark and we paid what it cost.
We carry the weight, we carry the cries,
With the gates thrown wide and the blaze in our eyes.
(Both, soaring; violin streaking the sky)
The blood of the north runs cold but never dies,
The blood of the north runs cold but never dies,
(Choir and chants layered) Never dies—never dies—hey!—never dies!

[Final Drop]
[Instrumental Break — Final, massive: Solo violin tears an ancient folk motif over monstrous bass and war drums; electric guitars and low brass surge; male chant choir pounds the hook in rhythm.]
(Chant) Cold—(Hey!) never—(Hey!) dies—(Hey!) never—(Hey!) dies!

[Outro]
(Soft wind. One violin, alone.)
(xx, quiet) If I fall, let the snow take only bones—
(Female, warm) My fire walks on, and the north knows its own.
(Whispered, both) The blood of the north runs cold… but never dies.
