Lyrics

[Intro]
Cold chews the edges of the world,
Embers blink like tired eyes.
My breath climbs, ghosts in the black,
Snow hush, wind low as a drum far off.
I sit with the coals and the quiet,
Counting their small red moons.

[Verse 1]
Furs rise and fall, shapes breathing slow,
Names I keep without a sound.
Cracked hands feed the ember’s throat,
Ash paints lines I swore to carry.
I learned the footfall of the dark,
How it leans on every door.
If fear comes crawling through the pines,
It tests my spine before it finds you.

[Pre-Chorus]
I made a vow in smoke-stained palm,
No witness but the frost and flame.
If something breaks, it breaks on me,
I hold the edge and never call your name.
The night is heavy, but I bend,
Not splinter; I stay until it thins.

[Chorus]
Lay your weight into the fur, let the tide of sleep take hold,
Let the storm spend all its teeth on the shield I’ve learned to hold.
I’m the quiet on the ridge, the ember’s stubborn song,
I’ll be the one the dark meets first, I’ll carry it till gone.
So close your eyes, breathe slow and strong—
I’ll take the watch, you take the dawn.
I’ll take the watch, you take the dawn.

[Drop]
[Instrumental Break — Solo violin leads a mourned-then-rising melody over growling bass; halftime rock drums and war-stomp swells hold the line]

[Verse 2]
I count the heartbeats in the logs,
Stir the ash so sparks remember.
Ice talks in the leather ties,
Pine sap sweetens winter’s temper.
Your shoulder shifts—a river name
Murmured soft inside your dream;
I map its course along my scars,
Keep that water running clean.

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Horizon hints a bruise of grey,
But hours still have teeth and bone.
My eyes burn salt, the wind says stay—
I square my breath and face the stone.
If knees would shake, I teach them steel;
I’m tired, yes—but I don’t yield.

[Chorus 2]
Lay your fear upon the ash; I’ll bank the glow against the cold,
Let the night exhaust itself on this back that will not fold.
I am winter’s patient fist, the circle never drawn,
The quiet blade that cuts the dark, the held note in the song.
Keep dreaming deep; keep dreaming on—
I’ll take the watch, you take the dawn.
I’ll take the watch, you take the dawn.

[Drop 2]
[Instrumental Break — Violin fights and sings above a darker bass growl; taiko rolls and live drums surge like distant thunder]

[Bridge]
It isn’t chains that bind me here,
It’s warmth that chooses me.
Your breathing—small, then deep again—
Becomes the rope I climb to see.
The light I keep for you keeps me,
The ember mends the cracks it made.
In guarding what you dare to dream,
The iron in me bends, not breaks.

[Chant Break]
[Low male chant choir with stomps and taiko]
Ho—hold the night, keep the fire low.
Hey—feed the spark, let the north wind go.
Ho—bones to stone, heart to flame.
Hey—watchman stands, calls no name.
Ho—take the watch, let the light be born.
Hey—keep them safe till the birth of morn.

[Final Chorus]
Now I hear your dreams like distant drums,
They pace my pulse, they pull me home.
What I protect is what keeps me—
Your quiet hope becomes my own.
So sleep, my kin, and breathe me strong,
Your dawn is why I face this long.
I’ll take the watch, you take the dawn—
Your dawn keeps my fire on.
I’ll take the watch, you take the dawn—
Your dawn keeps my fire on.

[Outro]
Coals like constellations sink,
Wind exhales, the black turns grey.
Violin threads a final line,
I whisper to the waking day:
I’ll take the watch, you take the dawn.
