Lyrics

[Intro]
(Solo Nordic fiddle over cold wind — one instrument only. Voice enters in the last bars.)
Cold bites the iron in my jaw.
Frost writes the names I carry raw.
Torches cough and narrow to a coal.
I stand alone and measure out my soul.

[Verse 1]
Snow like ash on the back of my hands,
Salt from the sea in the seams of my plans.
I mouth every name that the night never learned,
Carved into antler, in bone, in a stern
Prayer that scrapes like a whetstone kiss,
Old blood under nail, a vow I won’t miss.
Lightning counts heartbeats, far off and worn,
The tide holds its breath — the ridge grows a horn.

[Pre-Chorus]
Wind takes aim at the cracks in my shield,
I hear far drums under ice-covered fields.
My dread is a wolf with its teeth in my sleeve,
I show it my palms and refuse to bleed.
Bowstrings tighten, a violin stare —
A single bright thread through the iron-cold air.

[Chorus]
I will not bow to a night made of storms,
Let thunder write crowns on the slope of my scars.
Iron for spine and the sea for my breath,
I anchor the lost where the ice meets the dark.
If I break, then I break like the dawn through the sleet —
Not now. Not here. I turn on my feet.
Rise with the northern storm!
(Gang chant, low and steady): RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!

[Drop]
(Instrumental Break — Violin leads a fierce, modal melody over halftime war drums and growling bass; electric guitar grits beneath. Taiko stomps. Low male “hey!” calls punctuate.)
Chant (low, rhythmic): Hey—hey—hey—hey—
Shout: Rise with the northern storm!
Chant (low): RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!

[Verse 2]
Smoke from the shore ghosts the cut of my cheek,
Iron and brine make the winter taste bleak.
I carry the silence of brothers I’ve burned,
Cairns under frost where the raven has turned.
Their boots in my memory march with my tread,
Torchlight on shields like a map for the dead.
The sky draws a blade, but I know it by name;
What frightened my ribs now feeds me like flame.

[Pre-Chorus 2]
I hear your feet fall, you fallen, behind —
A hundred low heartbeats correcting my spine.
My fear is a river — I dam it with bone,
I drink from the cold and I call it my own.
Fiddle cries higher — a storm-colored thread,
Tying the living to all of our dead.

[Chorus 2]
I will not kneel to the howl in the wire,
Let lightning find home in the scars I require.
Steel in my lungs and the sea in my chest,
I raise every name like a standard to rest.
If I bend, then I bend like a bow pulled to sing —
Not now. Not here. I’m loosing the string.
Rise with the northern storm!
(Gang chant, low and steady): RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!

[Drop 2]
(Instrumental Break — Violin soars, answering itself in call-and-response over crushing halftime drums; dubstep bass growls controlled and massive; low brass swells; male chants answer in the gaps.)
Chant (low, pounding): Ho—hey—Ho—hey—
Shout: Rise with the northern storm!
Chant (low): RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!

[Bridge]
(Strip back to piano, solo violin, and voice.)
If I should fall, be wind in my lungs,
Keep my last breath like a bell that was rung.
If I should stand, be the hush in my hand,
Steady the torch so the night understands.
Frost in my beard, salt on my tongue —
I speak to the dark in the voice of the young
Man I buried and the old one I’ve grown —
Both are the spine of the mountain I own.

[Chant Break]
(War drums return, low and distant; male gang chants build, call-and-response.)
Caller (lead, low): Rise with the northern storm!
Gang (low, stomping): RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!
Caller: Beat on the iron of fear till it’s warm!
Gang: BEAT—IRON—WARM!
Caller: Names in the snow, we carry them on!
Gang: NAME—BY—NAME—WE—MARCH!
Caller: Rise with the northern storm!
Gang: RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!

[Final Chorus]
I do not bow — I become what I face,
The thunder that hunted now drums in my veins.
Lightning lays laurels on fracture and brace,
The storm is my standard, my marrow, my flame.
I am the mast in a gale I have tamed,
Harbor and howl in the same weathered frame.
Rise with the northern storm!
(Gang chant, massive, surrounding): RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!
I will not break — I am steel in the rain,
Every lost brother is blood in my aim.
Rise with the northern storm!
(Gang chant): RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!
Rise with the northern storm!
(Gang chant): RISE—NORTHERN—STORM!

[Outro]
(Solo violin returns, warmer; wind easing.)
Ash on my coat, but a red line of morn —
I walk from the wave with the weather reborn.
Names rest easy; my breath is the sky.
The storm in my chest lays down, and is mine.
